On Sunday evening I made these soft, glazed cookies as a little treat to enjoy while watching the first episode of the new season of Downton Abbey. I have a ton of citrus right now as nearly everyone here in Phoenix have lemon, orange or grapefruit trees and most people are desperate to give it all away or bad things can happen. My boss has a lemon tree and brings me lemons almost every day so instead of using them to flavor my tea or water I thought I’d make these cookies instead. They were good, but I think I would add more lemon if I made them again as the flavor was almost too bland. I think I would rather save my lemons to make lemon bars instead (one of my favorite treats).

Do you like lemon flavored desserts?

Weekend Cooking, hosted at Beth Fish Reads, is open to anyone who has any kind of food-related post to share: Book (novel, nonfiction) reviews, cookbook reviews, movie reviews, recipes, random thoughts, gadgets, quotations, photographs. If your post is even vaguely foodie, feel free to grab the button and link up anytime over the weekend. You do not have to post on the weekend. Please link to your specific post, not your blog’s home page.

  1. I like the simple but classic lemon cheese cake 🙂

  2. Oh those cookies look awesome. And ha! on the lemon bars — I made them for New Year’s Eve.

    • I’ve never made them before, but I think I’ll give them a try this week. They are the perfect treat for January – a bit of sunshine among the gloom.

  3. I like lemon cookies and bars, but only homemade and buttery! Not a fan of lemon meringue pie, but wonder if that’s because I’ve never tried a piece of a really good one!

  4. Your cookies look wonderful, and I love citrus in general and lemon in particular. At the moment I’m smitten with a particular kind of lemon yogurt that I pop into the freezer for a little while so that it’s semi-frozen ….

  5. Wow – those cookies look amazing and unique! Im not a baker, so would never make them, but I’d love to eat them!

I love lemon even more than chocolate, how amazing not to have to buy them at the supermarket! You should give lemon drizzle cake a go, very lemony and easy to make.

    • I know, it is really great to just get lemons for free. If I ever buy my own house I’m definitely going to have a lemon tree in my yard. Lemon drizzle cake sounds wonderful -I like anything with a drizzle or a glaze.

  7. I do love lemony recipes! I do make a lemon syrup cake which is very, very lemony and everyone who tries them loves them. I am pretty sure I have shared that recipe for Weekend Cooking previously.

  8. Ooh, these cookies look delicious.

  9. Oh I DO like lemon-flavored desserts. It is once again Mardi Gras season, which means my sister is talking about making king cake. She makes the beeeest king cake with lemon zest grated into the batter and it’s amazing. Now it is all I can think of.

  10. Lemon is one of my favorite flavors for baked goods, bar none. I recently made a lemon chess pie that was DIVINE.

  11. Lemon cake and cheese cake, though I admit to disliking the lemon aspect of cherry cake. Not having heard of lemon bars I’ve looked them up – yum!

  12. very nice , we love lemon drizzle cake amanda and I
